Cadcrowd compared: paying for CAD work with a bounty
Cadcrowd is a design-for-hire marketplace with contests and contracts. It is a good fit for some jobs and a poor fit for others. This page compares its documented fees, as of 2026-09-16, with a CAD bounty here.
Cadcrowd's documented terms (as of 2026-09-16)
- Design contests: 0% fee for designers. The client sets the prize, with a $100 minimum, and the platform suggests an equivalent of $45–$120 an hour.
- Job contracts: a 20% platform fee is added to the designer's quote, with a $25 minimum for fixed-price work and $8/hr for hourly work.
- IP: the client owns the IP on a paid contest or job, as is typical for work-for-hire.
A CAD bounty here
You post a bounty for the file you need and set the amount. Others with the same problem can pledge toward it. A maker claims it and submits a solution, and when you accept it each pledge is charged directly to the maker's Stripe account with application_fee_amount set to 0. The platform fee is 0%, whoever the maker is. See how to post a CAD bounty and pricing.

When Cadcrowd is the better choice
If you need to own the design outright, for example for a product you will manufacture and sell, Cadcrowd's work-for-hire model is built for that. Here the maker keeps the design and chooses its licence.
When a bounty is the better choice
Choose a bounty when the problem is shared, like a discontinued part many owners need, when you would rather split the cost, or when you do not need exclusive rights. The maker is paid directly, and the next person with the problem can buy the file instead of paying for a new design.
The platform never holds bounty money. A pledge only saves a payment method with Stripe, and the charge at acceptance goes straight to the solver's Stripe account.
What is live today, and what is not
This is a young marketplace, so here is exactly where it stands. Bounties are posted, pledged to and accepted in the MakeBounty app, backed by the same API this site uses. Each bounty and each solution has a public page here. Catalogue checkout with the published split is built in the API; a purchase control on the public solution page is not live yet. Print-on-demand fulfilment is not live yet either: today you receive design files, not a manufactured part.
Frequently asked questions
What does Cadcrowd charge?
As of 2026-09-16, Cadcrowd documents a 0% fee for designers on contests (client-set prize, $100 minimum) and a 20% platform fee added to the designer's quote on job contracts.
What does a CAD bounty cost here?
The platform fee is 0%. Pledges are charged directly to the maker's Stripe account when you accept the solution, and Stripe's own processing fee is the only deduction.
Do I own the design from a bounty?
Not by default. The maker keeps the design and chooses its licence. If you need full ownership, a work-for-hire service such as Cadcrowd is designed for that.
Is there a CAD bounty site where several people can share the cost?
Yes. Here, anyone with the same problem can pledge toward a bounty, and each pledge is charged only when the solution is accepted.
